Very Interesting. I had the immense fortune to acquire one of the original 'working concept' pencil drawings of the boat that eventually became the Baba 40 by Bob Perry ... the seminal drawing for all his 'double enders', one of my boats is a Tayana 37 - one design that directly emanates from the original Baba 40 design concept.

On this drawing ... guess what ... the faint outlines of the erased "sacred square". I had been corresponding with Bob Perry in a complimentary discussion of 'exactly why' his boats were sooooo damn 'eye pleasing'. He was moving his office at the time and offered to 'release' one of his ancient 'concept' drawings. That drawing is now mounted/framed and is hanging in my living room, ultimately it should be in a 'boating museum' someday. Great discussion on that 'link', Roger.

Im currently in the preliminary design of an ultra-light FRG lapstrake Whitehall/Wherry ... and this 'sacred square' will help to finalize the shape, especially to satisfy the need for 'most elegant shear' - thanks for your posting, and the 'link'.

Really neat concept, Roger.. When you were describing it I was thinking that Mr. Robb White would have used this boat.. then you mention it a little further down the thread.. I really did enjoy that book; his descriptions of the places and action was great.. very practical in his approach to life in general..

Hi Roger,
So you're a Renaissance man living in the 21st Century. The same is true in nature, the repeating formuli that creat balance. Maybe that's why I always stop and stare at those wooden boats.
