New "sailboat" and Insurance on Gulf Coast

Ok, but you have to admit it will really "sail" when in the water...I've been active in Hunterowners since the forum started, and until Katrina, had an H33 that I had gotten almost like I wanted...As I started looking for a replacement, I keep running into a problem...people selling sailboats that are 20 years or so old and in the size range I want 33-40ft, are telling me that they can't get any wind or hurricane damage insurance on their boats...doesn't do much good to spend 30-60K on a boat and then not be able to insure it...One reason I bought the boat pictured is that it can be insured...and can also move fast enough to get out of the way...uses more fuel in 1 hour than I used to use in a season, but, at least I'm back on the water. But I miss the sailing, and assuming the marinas in the area get rebuilt, would like to get a sailboat, but not if it can't be insured...You can get insurance against fire, theft, and liability, but not replacement for hurricane flood or wind damage...not sure about tornado wind damage. Is everyone else on the Gulf Coast having this problem? If so, there are going to be a lot less good old boats boats in the water in the coming years on the Gulf Coast.

Glad you are back in the water

I lost my boat in Katrina in Slidell. Bought another older sailboat in Fl and moved it to Tx where I am currently staying. Had a nightmare getting insurance and it isnt worth a damned thing and was very high. Most others in my situation have had the same problem. Some on here said they had no problem at all. Some even listed their brokers name. I called those numbers and I was rejected. See if they respond to your post and ask them for their agents name and phone number. Maybe you will have better luck.
