Do any Hunter 240s have all the specs required to order a new set of sails. I have the CDI furler and they want all the specs before i can order a new set. Anyone have in recommendations. I'm considering AirForce this time around. Thanks

There are specs... and then there are specs

Any reputable sail loft will be able to quote a price based on the IJPE of the boat, which they'll have in their database. However, once ordered, you'll need to provide some measurements to the loft, i.e., from headstay to fairlead, mast to outhaul, etc. A loft that doesn't ask for some fairly specific measurements isn't making a sail for your boat, they're just cutting something generic that may not fit quite right. While I'm at it, you should check the prices on the Doyle sails in the chandlery here. They are built domestically and designed by some of the best guys in the business.

Any one purchased sails for the 240 lately?

Math? maybe I should just sell it and get a row boat. I have the Doyles that came with the boat pushing 5 years old, they need a professional cleaning and some stitching would also like to get UV on the genoa. I meant to have them done over the winter but had a death in the family and wasn't even gonna do any sailing this year. But, the wife wants on the water worst than I do. Anyone have any good suggestions on sails. I've been checking into Airforce and North sales. I'm hoping I can find someone that has ordered them for a 240 with the CDI unit and just use their specs or supplier. Only problem is they want all kinds of measurements not just the I,J,P,E they want furler type measurement for it's location pin to the top of the unit.

Don't take the lazy way out

To get a set of sails made for YOUR boat you really need to give the loft measurements from YOUR boat. Hunter is notorious for changing things in midstream. You might be sorry using someone else’s measurements. Phil is correct in that a loft should be able to give you a quote without your specific measurements before you order. As for a source, you might want to try Cruising Direct. They are a North Sails company and they have an online sail quote link.

Many lofts have software

4 out of 5 lofts that I spoke to last Fall at the Newport boat show had software on their computers that contains a data base of most sailboat dimensions/requirements. They will then enter the specs for # battens, material type, etc. and the system will generate a quote based upon their cost criteria/pricing. The 5th loft had the specs in books that they hand-figured the cost. After I selected the loft that I wanted to do business with (not necessarily the cheapest) I then provided them with the old sail which they used to confirm measurements, placement of Dutchman control line discs and Dutchman pockets. The sail was ready in about 2 weeks. It has 2 full battens and 2 shorter ones. The shortest (top) batten is about 5' long. And the longest one is 12' long.
