How close to the Illinois River are you. I believe that would be only way to Lake Michigan. Have to drop stick, of course. Hope motor is good, as upstream all way to windy. Perhaps easier to rent,buy,borrow a trailer?
100 miles is doable if the boat is a diesel and you have favorable conditions and some help. Personally i would suggest planning for three days. I did Milford CT to Stonington (8 hrs) then to the north end of the Cape Cod Canal (10 hrs) then to Boston (5hrs) with a hired Captain to help. 10 hours with a diesel running all day is a pretty long day.
Thanks for the advice . Bobncamie the boat,Orinoco , is only a few blocks from Lake Michigan, just 2 bridges to open. Orinoco has a 2gm yanmar. I had an on land engine test done. It runs well. I am hoping to sail the boat at least part of the way. Last summer I sailed my Coronado 25 from Milwaukee to Muskegon , 76 miles a day, virtually by my self. Too far really . I have 4 days . I am planning one to get the boat ready, 2 for travel and a 1 day for weather .
I wish we were there, instead of ice locked in Superior(the boat anyway)hope to get our boat to Chicago by mid-sept. That is also the motor we have and after sea trial last fall,was very suprised that the small size moved us as well as it did. Perhaps see in in the area,look for Eclipse. Best to you. Bob
