Makes me wonder if silicone sealer/caulk can be used to glue the carpet down. Should be easier to remove?
if you get a good outdoor /marine carpet with a rubber backing you will have no problem with it staying in place

I wasn't recommending anything. I was asking a question, same as the OP.

A cockpit grating guys. MUCH easier to maintain.
I prefer strips just one-way, though, not crossing.

Just clean it again and make a rule No soles on the sole.
Yabut what if they are like I was when I was a kid, and just ran around everywhere barefoot in the summer? So then they step on the boat, and put foot shaped dirty prints all over, instead of shoe sole shaped dirty prints all over. :D

Having a Mother that had a cleaning OCD, I wouldn't sweat the dirt on your sole and just clean the darn thing after your guests leave.

Yeah, my professional fishing buddy wears boots but his Pit Bull is bare footed! Chief

It would never have occurred to me to ask my guests or even family to go barefoot on our boat. Even reading through this thread I still don't get the point of doing so. We give the deck a wash and the cabin a vacuum before guests arrive and just don't sweat anything that happens after that. If we get footprints anywhere, so be it, we'll take care of it in due time. Caring about it in the moment would only reduce our enjoyment.

Unless you're referring to "wall to wall" carpet, why would you want to glue it down.
If you lay indoor/outdoor carpeting on fibreglass, it will ball up under your feet. It can be a real nasty slip/trip/fall hazard.
The tape isn't fun to work with, but it isn't a permanent glue joint.

Even the black heel marks just wear off in a few months. No big deal.

Lake sailing. You can't clean anything with that stuff we're floatin' around in. Yuck. Rain works. And booze helps.

That runner was Sue's find and it has worked out very well!. It has a rubber backing so it has never slipped or left any residue on the sole. The weave collects all the grit that comes off anybody's shoes as we step off the companionway steps and it holds the particles until we take it out and give it a beating periodically. It has held up for a while now, but flower patterns aren't for me.

I was thinking of a carpet mat but I just got the boat and need to get use to it today I went to work on it and the inside was sweeting and am worried that its just going to make the carpet stay wet and start to mildew. This is my first boat I leave in the water all my others were trailer sailors and stayed in my drive way. So its a learning curve to keep the inside dry.

I'm experimenting with using yoga matts. Going to add some double back tape to help keep it in place. It's not slippery when wet, gives a layer of protection, drys quickly, easy to cut into the shapes you want, comfortable on bare feet, and lastly extremely cheap. You can buy all you need for the cabin and cockpit for less than $30.

I kinda like the yoga mats
I'm just experimenting for now. Have to find a way to keep them in place without making them permanent. Right now they are just lying in place and will ball up when you twist your foot or step down into the cockpit or cabin. Going to try some different ways to hold them down and see which will work best. I bought 4 matts at Wally world (Walmart) $7.50 each. Then trimmed to fit. I like the way they look and feel.
