Well it figures, I've been busting my hump to get my 240 ready. The plan was to put her in this Monday. The last procedure was bottom paint. I painted the boat and removed the rudder from the garage and coated that as well. As the rudder paint was drying I noticed the rudder was leaking water from the bottom. It appears it was water logged when put away for the winter. It must of froze in my garage and split the bottom. I drilled a hole to increase the flow of water. It appears it would take all summer to dry out.
I ended up ordering a composite rudder from Ruddercraft. It's the one piece unit. I'm told my original tiller hardware will mate with the new rudder. One concern is that the new one is 5 inches longer than the stock one. I was told I could cut and shape it to desired length and it won't void the warranty.
So besides the cost my season will be delayed about 3-4 weeks. I can only blame myself. If I had realized the problem at the end of last season I would of drilled a hole and let it drain through the winter.
