New Rudder, where to buy?

Has anyone ordered a new rudder for their boat off of this site? I have talked to Rudy and am inclined to go with him but the ones on the site are a little cheaper and will support the site? I the Boat is an O’day 28 with a full keel. The rudder shaft is bent and the glass is delaminated at the bottom. Insurance is paying so I’m not considering repair (seems important to have a good working rudder at all times).

I wasn't happy to find that my rudder was bent, but Al at Foss Foam made getting a new one built and delivered painless. The company has been around since 1975, and they claim to have built over 50,000 rudders. Guess I am not alone in needing a new one? Actually, Al told me they built the original rudder for my 1982 Hunter 36 "Cherubini". He knew my boat exactly when I mentioned the make and year model, and has the mold for the rudder.

On that O'DAY 28, the rudders that D&R sells are suposed to be better than hte original...... but Foss Foam is a good source since I beleive they built the original.
One question though, are you sure this is an O'DAY 28?? O'Day never built a "Full-Keel" model of the 28, only deep and shallow Fin Keels or a Keel/CB model that had a draft just shallower than the Shoal model but added a centerboard inside the keel.
A Cape Dory or such is a good example of a "Full" Keel, usually with an attached rudder on the trailing edge.

Major blunder! :eek: You are too right I have a deep/long fin keel. It does not retract up in nor does it have wings on the sides.

I figured she was the deep-Fin, but a lot of people mistakingly refer to a deep-keel as a "Full-Keel" thinking that is the name since it is full depth. Easy and far too common error....... but not "unforgivible"! <GRIN!>
