It looks like I need a new rudder and tiller. While securing the boat for the trip home after a great day of sailing, a powerboater turned a little too close and a little too fast into my boat. His trailer clipped my rudder bending the tiller over 18 inches to the right and damaging my rudder. I'll contact Hunter and see about a replacement rudder. I'm also getting an estimate for repair of the original rudder. I'm talking about the 'white' fiberglass part. The rudder 'housing' {the black aluminum part) seems ok. I'll disassemble it and check it for flatness this week. Does anyone have any idea what the cost of the stock rudder (fiberglass part) is from Hunter? Does anyone have the Idasailor rudder? I'm planning to order the wooden tiller from this site, but does anyone know the cost of the aluminum tiller from Hunter. Any history or opinions are appreciated. My boat is the 23.5 but I'd like to hear about any rudder / tiller replacement you might have done. Today was a great day of sailing but it sure was dampened by an idiot! I have an Ida Rudder
and I like it. I've had it for two summers & it works fine. I have even hit a few rocks in the North Channel with it & nary a scratch. kevin

After 2 delaminating rudders from Hunter, I bought the 48" Ida Sailor rudder for my 2001 H260 3 years ago. Works great. I hold it down with the frangible plastic pin from Hunter. I hit a stump last summer, broke the pin but not a mark on the rudder. Because the rudder floats, it's much easier to raise than the oem rudder. I like it.

I bought them from Hunter. In 2003 the pin with a retaining chain and clip was $10. The pins alone were $3.
