New Replacement Swing Keels; A Group Project

Here's a picture of the swing to wing conversion keel. This one is for a C-25 but the C-22 looked just the same.
So years ago, when all the C22 chatter was on a different forum, there was a guy that had, I believe, a MkII with a Capri 22 wing keel that he had put on it. Claimed it would beat any other C22 out there, but wasn't class legal for racing. Interesting concept though, and was a fantastic looking boat. I think the boat's name was Dream Chaser or something like that. Last I remember he was planning to sell it and get a live aboard and go someplace warm.
Great Pic! Since my Hull is inverted right now I should probably go ahead and use it as a mold to pop out a quick blank of the pocket negative huh?

All the C-22 MK-II wing keel versions use the Capri-22 wing keel. Very different from the wing keel used on the "New Design" boats. I believe the boat your talking about was fitted from the factory with a Capri-22 fin keel. And yes it was fast, and caused a lot of discussion with the C-22 National Association. Frank Butler offered to remove the fin keel and install a wing keel, but the owner declined, and the last I heard, she's slipped in Alamitos Bay up in Long Beach.

If you pull your swing keel down, clean and smooth it out, epoxy coat it, and then bottom paint it, are there any concerns about still being class legal?
As a fabricator I think the Wing Keel conversion might actually be easier for me to construct than a swing keel... I think I would just use mild steel plates, welded in steps, sandblast a coat with Interprotect, then fair the foil with epoxy fairing compound. All I'd really need is a nice set of half foil guides cut from plywood.
I certainly hope not... That's just good maintenance and preservation, as long as you aren't changing the shape.
