Peggy, we have just installed a Raritan II with new holding tank and hoses. The pump action is much noisier than I expected. Sounds like air. Any suggstions? Other issue: At our first pump-out, there was a high-pitched whistling noise during evacuation. Causes? Remedies? Thanks Marilyn

what you're hearing...one ok, one not ok

I'm taking a wild guess that by "Raritan II" you're referring to the PH II and not the Compact II. If it is a PH II, what you're hearing when you pump the PH II is air going through the air valve (that little square flat nut with a hole in it on the front of the wet/dry valve housing that looks like it's molded into the housing, but actually is threaded in). It's normal. However, it won't make nearly as much noise if you pump the toilet more slowly and deliberately instead of flailing away at it as you got used to doing to make your previous toilet move anything out of the bowl. the PH II pump is very efficient, and actually works much better if you don't pump it fast. The whistling noise when you pumped out doesn't have anything to do with the toilet...it sounds like a blocked tank vent...the pumpout is trying to pull in air to replace contents being pulled out of the tank from wherever it can get it. Since the tank is new, and if you also replaced the vent line when you replaced the rest of the hoses, the blockage just about has to be in the vent thru-hull. Or a kink in the vent line. That problem needs to be found and corrected before attempting to pump out again, or even using the toilet again.
