PHRF racing

The PHRF racing system allows local area committees to establish their own ratings under a broad cover. Therefore, the rating a boat receives in one area can be very different than another. Having said that, a Hunter 33 would rate a 162 on Long Island Sound. Hope this helps.

PHRF Rating

Your base rating is setup for boats in 'racing trim'. That means no roller furling, no fixed blade prop, and a genoa of 153%. Each of these items listed should give you a credit back. For example a fixed 2 blade prop is worth a +6 second adjustment(a3 blade is worth +12). If your genoa is a 135% the adjustment would be another +6. So you can see that if you started with a 162 rating and add +6 for your prop and +6 for a small genoa you should be rating about 174. BTW the credits given for the various corrections does not pay to have if you are given the option. For example, the loss in speed that a fixed blade prop produces is not worth the time allowance given for it.
