New port lights advice.

I am replacing the fixed portlights with Plexiglas. The salesgirl suggested poly carbonate with scratch resistance, UV protectant, and a gray limo tint. 1/4'' x 15'' x30''. I need 4 and was quoted $80 total. I will cut and bevel myself. Is this reasonable & appropriate?

There was a discussion about this in the last month. I think that the product of choice is acrylic (not lexan or poly carbonate). You may look back and see if you can find that discussion.

I will also check for you and see if I can find anything.

I asked her abouy that and she said that the poly-carbon has a higher impact and with a new additive it is more scratch resistant than acrylic.

check out this site, the guy goes into detail about acrylic vs. poly-carbonate. he believes acrylic is the better choice but goes out of his way to describe the pluses and minuses of both materials

When you cut the plexi, you might want to scrape the edges and flame them to make them clear. A plastic shop won't charge much to do that. It is a nice touch.
