Pearson Packet Weekender Defeated Creek Marina, Defeated, TN
30 or so years ago, used to own a 28' Seabird Yawl(1927, I think). Traded it for a bicycle built for two. Didn't get as seasick on the bicycle....couldn't get outside the breakwater at Oxnard on the bike! Today I purchased a 1964 Pearson 18'6" Packet Weekender(with a cuddy cabin). Anyone know where I can go to learn all I ever wanted to know about it? I searched Google for the last couple days but found only about 3-4 sites. E-mailed one of owners that had one a few years ago but no answer as yet. Bought this from John Huit, who moved here from Long Island.... Thanks much for any replies, Jim sizemore

Go to........

Sail-a-Pearson.com. They show a Pearson Packet but it has no cuddy and the stern looks different. Bow is similar. Take a look. David

Main boom

I was wondering about that yesteday. My boom was rotated 90* and I discovered I had to pull it backwards to straighten it up again. I will try rolling it later today. I wonder if that will work to furl the main with in a blow?

Makin' room

Discovered yesterday that I can(after rolling the main) take the boom down and lay it in the gunnel and on the side rail, out of the way, so as to have room to stand in the cockpit....

easy right

I know isnt it easy to roll the sail, but learned today that if I just flake it around boom beforehand I could get it up on my own, too hard to unroll and hoist up by yourself, good storage though. Went for a 5 hour sail today and the wind and current were perfect for getting around. Trying to send more pics but something isnt working, I dont know how I sent that one, its not picking them up out of the file, have a whole bunch that will be on the way soon.

things

as you can see my tiller is wrong, he made it too long and your hand falls asleep steering it, need to make a new one, asked someone today and they said yes they thought we could reef by rolling around boom but would need grommet to where we would reef it to tie to end of boom, he fixed the rudder up and it doesnt look at all like yours now, need to work on that this winter, discovered it is a bit rotten inside where tiller hole is,,i put git rot in there and filled with marine tex i think and drilled a hole behind tiller so water could go out and not down and rot more for the season, what kind of winch do you have to pull centerboard up? the winch i have is awful and the rope twice wrapped around itself and got stuck, a guy at the marina is going to put more pullys in there or something to pull it up easier, elizabeth

paint

have you painted your boat, the hull is painted right? I think they were all made a very light blue, mine was at one time light blue and the plastic stugg in the cabin that runs around the upper part around the windows was light blue when I got it. The one for sail in Florida is also light blue. I have repainted everything on mine and also painted the whole inside cabin white. I painted the top deck a beige and also the inside of the cockpit, I refuse to put grit in it though cuz it gets really dirty then but is a bit slippery because of it. The hull I added flattnerto dull it and make it look older. I am going to strip the sprit and boomkin this winter when I take her out, I really like the way yours looks as wood. I am a painter by trade so I kinda get into doing all this myself. I also painted the name on the back transom boards and did the recessed stars gold. I wonder why I am the only wood mast left, alot of varnish work every season but she looks nice. Where is the porta potty in yours, very front of cabin behind wood door? I would like to put that back in. I noticed is your bottom painted white?

solar

i got a tiny solar panel last year and just run the wire under cabin door and leave on cockpit seat. Your cabin looks so livable compared to mine. Is that a sink!!!!!?????

sailing

So you have no way to reef your main either? went sailing the other day and it was really gusty and the rail was so close to the water, a bit scary for me,,would of been better if I could reef the main, my son likes to heel alot and he had me too far over for comfort, she could possibly capsize right?

Reefing the main

I think that is the reason we have a rolling boom that will roll about 3-4 feet of sail before the sail starts binding against the track. I installed my oarlocks a couple days ago and am trying to find 10'-11' oars. The seven foot ones I have for my Jon boat are too short for all the freeboard the Weekender has....
