Hello everybody! I just bought a new to me 2022 Catalina 275. I want to thank everyone on here for all the posts and information sharing on this site. Good stuff that I've read thru once but will read thru again to learn more about my new boat! I especially like the traveler upgrade thread below. Several of my lines seem to have a little more drag than I would expect and there may be room for improvement.

Congratulations on your new boat. As you may have heard, Catalina Yachts has undergone some significant changes in the last year and has recently ceased operations. There was a report here in this forum last week that the CY website was down. However, I just did a DuckDuckGo search for Catalina 275 and in the wikipedia page there is a link to the 275 on the CY site and it is still there. I clicked on it and also found the link to Mainsheet magazine. you can read the last one and open the PDF file this way: Mainsheet Magazine

As far as your traveller, most folks may have unfortunately oversized the lines used, or they are old and have stiffened and/or swelled. i recommend doing a search on Catalina 275 owners manual, there should be one somewhere on the web. The CY manuals are extremely well written and comprehensive; I've owned three CYs - 22, 25 &34; each manual was excellent. Each one showed running rigging sizes. You could also call Garhauer who most likely made your traveller and ask them the right size, or look it up on their website - they are still in business.

Fair winds, enjoy your new boat, we know you will.

Thank you for that! It looks like Spring 25 was the last published issue? Password S431 with your deciphering info - good reading. I wonder if Spring was the last issue if that means they are no longer publishing? That's good news on the Garhauer and many (most?) other supporting manufacturers to Catalina being in business - it means parts should be readily available for our boats for years to come. Just "catalina" produced parts will be harder/impossible to come by. Unless the company relaunches, which I surely hope happens. One Catalina part I wish I could source are the companionway steps. One of mine has a nasty chip in it. If those were replaceable I'd surely order one. My tiller extension handle is degrading or got oil on it but those are spinlock and I already ordered one they are relatively inexpensive. In boat dollars that is - ha.

I am fortunate that the previous owner included the owners manual and several binders with manuals to all the systems on the boat. It includes all the rigging lines but I hadn't thought to actually look and measure to see if anything has been changed, but now I can. Thank you.

It was. But Hannah, who runs the Catalina Yachts Store, a separate venture from CY itself, has indicated she will pursue publishing an online-only version most likely in the spring.

It most likely will NOT happen. I have been the C34 Association Secretary for 27 years and have owned Catalina boats since 1983. Recent reporting, not only on boating forums, but in business press, explains the demise of the company. After Frank Butler died a few years ago, the company continued, to eventually be purchased by one Michael Reardon, who professed boat-building knowledge, but turned out to be a shyster, a venture capitalist who has defaulted on the payments of the deal he worked out with CY. It's in the courts now. CY as we've known it since Frank began it in the 60s/70s, is gone, its workers laid off and disappearing. It was a great run, but nothing lasts forever. I read some joker who said this on a boating forum: "Frank should have had a succession plan." A joker because Frank did, but he couldn't force his successors to not sell, or to not sell to a lying shyster.

In addition to Garhauer, there is a company called Catalina Direct, and you should get to know of their outstanding products. Bookmark their home page.

Companionway stairs are a candidate for you to find a good LOCAL woodworker. It sure ain't boat-specific. :) Tillers are available from most chandleries, like WM (yuck!), Defender, Hamilton in Canada and, GASP! Catalina Direct.

Most every Catalina model has an active owners association, usually found by www.c or catalina xyz. org, .com or .net. Search engines find this for the C27: Catalina27.net - Specs, tech, history, and more Sometimes later models of a certain size Catalina don't have their own associations, piggybacking on earlier models. Some only have Google or Yahoo groups. Sometimes you can find the links by searching "CatalinaXYZ owners manual." I know you have one, but an online one you could download to your computer or phone or tablet would avoid the dreaded "But I left the manual at home!" or "...on the boat!" panic post on this or other boating forums.:waycool:

Keep coming back here, there are a great bunch of helpful skippers and nice people. Glad you found us.

Thank you again. I actually know a good local woodworker but unfortunately the companionway stairs on the Catalina 275 are fiberglass!
