I dont have any sort of placard near the engine controls. Does
anyone have any suggestions for finding the Vega number of my boat?

Thanks for the info Dave. How do you know about the Hull thing?

If Vega Number is 2751 and and that 1 is also the 1 in 10-07-75 does
that mean they did a new hull each month?

This is cool now I can sign my name:

If the previous owner was Gerald Gravett, and the boats name is/was Whisper, then it is indeed Hull number 2751, home ported in Maryland, Frank V-2184

This may be European and the Hull date could be the 10th of July 1075 but the serial number will be a combination of the hull sequence and the pouring date.

the number is preceded with AMM for Albin Marin.

Thats the boat! Gerald Gravett was two owners ago as I understand it.

Mind if I ask how you knew that? Does some one record such things?
If so should I make it known that Whisper is with me now?

Ron,
I simply checked one of the old rosters from the "American Vega Association", I personally have rosters dating back to 1995. You might want to consider contacting Chuck Rose at www.vega1860@..., and joining the association. It is a great deal, I don't recall off hand whether it is $15.00 or $20.00 per year, but you will get a roster of all of the members, and as a new member, a copy of the maintenance manual for the Vega, either hard copy or on CD, again I am not sure. Give him a call, you can't go wrong. Frank Gallardo V-2184, Cin-Cin

Thanks for the plug Frank. I get all the messages to the group in my email so I can be reached through the group's message board or via email directly at vega1860@....

Memberships are currently $25 for new memberships including the Vega Owners Repair and Maintenance manual (VORM) and the complete archive of newsletters from August 1999 to the present, plus the photo albums from the Rendezvous at N. Pender Island in 2001 and Lopez Island in 2002 all on CD ROM and of course the printed version of "Fair Winds". Renewals are still $12 for domestic US members and $15 for International memberships. It turns out that the CD is cheaper to produce than the printed newsletter so I'm working up new pricing (cheaper) for those who would prefer to receive the newsletter on CD instead of paper. Details in the next issue of "Fair Winds"

You and Ron have given me an idea. If I had the old rosters I could trace the ownership history of many of the Vegas in the US and Canada. I haven't bothered to do that so far because I don't have the rosters prior to 1999. If there is enough interest and we can get hold of the old rosters it might be a worthwhile project.

Aloha,
