Greetings All: I am recently the proud owner of an older (1973) ODAY 22, the teak was stained and varnished, sat out in the sun, the sun did it's thing on the varnish and on and on.My point being, I have the tiller being refinished, and, now, my question is this. My tiller has a knob on the end, the knob favors one side, the weathering was on the side that has the knob UP. Should I reinstall the tiller with the knob UP, or should it be installed with the knob DOWN? Or, does it really matter? I have looked at photos, brochures, etc. and I cannot find the CORRECT position of the knob. Any help out there? Thanks

If I understand your question right, I would install knob down. Congrats on the new boat, I also have a 1973 O'day 22. If you have any questions please feel free to email me. I have crawled to every corner, even under the cockpit. They are great solid boats, it should serve you well.

my previous boat was a 1973 O'Day 22 (Hull#699) I LOVED this boat so much. Like Douglass above, any questions, feel free to drop a line....I repaied the mast (all new, new rigging, etc.) chainplates, deck rot/delamination, leak in the keel ( short keel, not centerboard) new electrical system, repainted the deck, new roller furler.....wow I did a lot, then I sold her and bought an O'Day 28......Time to do it all over again.
