New owner of Pearson 26

Just bought a '79 Pearson 26 on Ft. Gibson Lake, OK. Spent a week refitting and cleaning, had her out for the first time on the 4th of July - promptly found a shallow spot in the lake and ran her aground! A friendly pontoon boat (belonging to a sailor out of Tsa La Gi Yacht Club) pulled us off. I love love love her and hope to have her out many times this season. Next project: install a depth gauge.

You might try Navionics. I use it on my phone so I do not run aground on Lake Guntersville. A very good $20.00 spent.

eCharts are nice, but absolutely no substitute for actually KNOWING what your current depth is. This is sadly part of a larger trend where we rely more on gadgets, and less on seamanship.

Agreed, I have a depth gauge. But the ground can come up fast in shallow lakes. I just want advanced notice of a shallow spot. I did hit one time because of a hump in the middle of the lake. I now know where the humps and shallows are. The ground comes up from the front. The depth gauge is mounted on the back.
