New Owner of an Albin Vega V703

Hi,


I've been reading the group for a few months as I was in the process of buying an Albin Vega. Bought it a few weeks ago ! Now, Isis, her current name, V703 build circa 1969, is sitting in her new home. Took her from Halifax and brought her by road all the way up here, in Rivière-du-Loup, Québec, by the magnificent St-Lawrence estuary.


Since this is my first boat and this group is full of helping and experienced Albin Vega owner, I guess you'll read a few messages and questions from me :)


I already have one. On the speader, there is a metallic fixture to attach it to the mast. One is brooken, the part where a bolt goes trough and attach it to the mast. Anyone had this propblem before ? Any suggestions repair wise ? Having no knowledge and experience in metal working, I can't fix it myself. I will go to a local metal shop and ask if they can fix. Is there any specifications that the shop would need ? If so, where can I find them ?

Welcome to the Vega community, Jean-Francois! Paul and I own Double Fantasy, V1826, which we purchased in 1984. We live in the Bangor, Maine area and do most of our sailing on Penobscot Bay. We did live aboard and cruise our Vega for a period of 4 years between 1986-1992. Did not get to launch our Vega last year due to unforeseen problems (not with the Vega!).



We absolutely love the Riviere-du-Loup area! We try to get to Quebec at least one a year, although we didn't make it up there last year. Perhaps we could meet one day.

Hello. I had Vega #609 and it had the problem that the aluminium casting the spreader arm mounts to had split where the bolt passes through it that attaches it to the mast. Is this the same problem as yours? If so it is easily repaired by a good metal fabrication shop that has TIG welding ability. The casting is easily repairable by welding in the hands of a skilled operator.

These casting are called "hounds". I bought two from Steve Birch for Sin Tacha. They were easy to put on, and just needed a wee bit of filing to get the spreader angle right ... no big deal, as every boat is slightly different.They are shown on photos 83-85 on this picassa album. I'd prefer a pair of new ones, rather than repairing the old ones, as these parts are instrumental in holding the mast up ... just my opinion.Petermostlyaboutboats.ca

in stock in the UK. They are £24 each plus carriage.

Thanks for the information. I found a metlworking shop that will repair the broken one. I'll keep in mind the adress tho. I might want some new ones when I'm ready fo a little offshore sailing :)
