Hello, I just recently purchase Proton, a 1987 First 235, Hull #018. Actually, I had to only sail her from Kelowna, BC 35 miles north on Lake Okanagan to new home in Vernon, BC. I feel very lucky to have found her so close to home and feels great to be back sailing after a 20 year hiatus. She is now moored on my buoy which had a C&C 24 many years ago.
I will be sailing quite often with my neighbour who unfortunately was recently diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease which leads to my first question. My thoughts to make it easier access for the two 63 year olds, would be to mount the outboard on the port side to gain better access through the low section of transom. I also was also wanting to tidy up cockpit by moving gas tank in the storage area under seat. Now with the motor on the port, this part of plan wouldn't seem very logical. I would have gas line and charging cord running across transom. Last, would be to replace the original Honda 75 with a 4-6 hp with a internal tank but lose the charging advantage, Has anyone done this or have some suggestions. Cheers!

With my 235, I have a 6hp Yamaha on starboard side and the fuel tank is in the middle of the back of the cockpit. I personally wouldn't move things or even put the tank in the cockpit locker as there really isn't a stable base and you could get leaks or fumes building up. Not sure on the size of the internal tank, if you just need a motor to get on and off the ball, I would think that would work out good for you. As for charging, I have a 6 watt solar panel that keeps the battery topped off but, I do not have instrumentation and my power needs are pretty small. Be sure to let Kelly know at http://beneteau235.com/ that you are the new owner. The 235 is a great pocket cruiser and I race mine as well. Post some pics, like to see how she looks!

Thanks CB, all good points. Solar may be an option if I'm set on my plan.
Will get pics shortly. Regarding the beneteau235 site, I've made many attempts to get on or contact
with no luck so far. Will try with email direct.
Thanks

used to own 430. Back then, we had three different versions of a 235 web site, but not so many people were on any of them. Nice to see the new one.

I’ve know of couple of 235s that have moved the motor to port for the reasons you describe. On a scissor motor lift. Ladder on starboard. Works fine actually helps balance the boat. Keep the tank in the cockpit.
