Hey ya'll I am new to the Catalina line and have a question about a small pump hooked to an electric motor with a small toothed belt. It is mounted behind the Atomic 4 on the port side. I am not sure if it is used to pressurize the fresh water system in the boat or something else? Hope someone knows what this is and hopefully I described it well enough. Thanks much

B,

Those are usually used for your water system. Quick check would be to turn on water pressure switch, open a faucet & look to see if the pump runs..

Is the pressure switch on the main panel? Mine shows a switch for the fresh water but nothing happens when this is on and a faucet is open.

B,
As a new owner you will discover that the DUMBEST guy you ever met was the previous owner!

When I bought my boat & looked behind my panel, I was shocked at all the wiring problems I had.

First, do you have pressurized water at the sinks? Are your fuses good?
Turn everything on & see if you get water. Barring that, it's an electrical troubleshooting problem.

Let us know what you find, and we guys here will be able to walk you thru it pal.......

This is probably a "PAR" pressure water pump. Is it mounted on four legs with large rubber washers? These are really great units and can easily be rebuilt if necessary. As Cap said, turn everything on and take a look at the pump..............simple process of elimination.

As CaptRon said, the switches at the panel are rarely, if ever labeled for what they are hooked up to. My stereo switch turns on bilge pump, macerator turns on fan, refrig turns on Marine Radio, etc. It's kind of a joke in these boats. The only one that is properly labeled is instruments, and only half of them work.

Thanks for the help guys I'll let you know what I find out, but I do know that some of the switches are mislabeled.

B,I have another suggestion that may help. Not knowing how mislabled your switches are, you may want to try this:Draw up a chart showing the labeled switches as they appear on the panel. With all switches off except the panel power on switch, (all batteries on) one by one turn on a switch and see what works with it. You will need to turn on one thing at a time, ie: water, lights radio etc.Go on down the switches in the same same manner, and see what they all work. One at a time, on the sketch you made, write what switches powered what. Remember only one switch at a time pal. This should give you what works what. When satisified with your sketch, you may be able to unscrew the switches on the panel, (leave wires connected when changing positions if possible). This way you may be able to straighten out the mis-labled ones without having to change the wiring to that labled switch.Remember, if at all possible, work smart NOT hard pal.CR

Thanks Capt great advise. I am going back on board in a couple of days with some fresh parts from Moyer Marine for the last 48 hrs of my homeward leg. BTW the people at Moyer are great to work with, very knowledgeable and considerate much like all ya'll on this forum. Thanks again for all the help.
