Hey, We purchased a 1969 Columbian MK11 in June. Most of my time has been fixing it up, new motor / 9.9 and had to jury rig it for the well cause it did not fit. I am still not sure all my rigging is really correct and would love to find a picture showing the proper rigging for the jib / genoa. Popped a haylard last sat. (probally a 1969 rope) and dropped the main a bit quicker than one should, but all in all I love the boa and it's look and roominess and hope to get it really ready this winter for next season.

jury rigging the well
I bought a 26mkII two weeks before hurricane Isabel raveged the Chesapeake. We weathered the storm, no problem and have fallen in love. My first sailboat! WE also bought a new 9.9 honda but was too large. We were able to exchange for a 5hp. Much easier to handle, overall probably better, but I'm still needing to retro fit, for proper use. Over the winter I think I'll cut out the forward section of the well, bolt in a 2x4 from both sides of the cockpit and fiberglass over the sides. I think this will secure everything and allow me to mount the engine 2"s forward relieving vibration and friction at the base of the rudder. Any advice. Is this simalar to your "jury rig". I'll also take advice on the old rusty keel bolt issue.

I believe the Cape Dory 25 has a similar engine well as the Columbia. I, too, thought of a 9 HP but acutual dims. prevented this. I went with a 5 HP Honda 4 stroke, long shaft. Very tight fit. Took all day to move forward the mounting board but this way no major mods were required. The motor now moves us along at 5 knots, no problem. Pix can be seen at attached link. i bought a 26 MKII with absolutely NO orientation and have been unable to find pictures of the rigging...the boat was de-rigged for hauling and i'm unsure of how to re-rig the boom vang and the downhaul...any help would be appreciated, though i think that pictures would speak more clearly than narrative...one more thing--i'm not sure what the area is called where the mainsail slugs feed into the mast...once the slugs are in, is there a fitting(s) that closes the 'hole' so that the slugs don't come back out?...mine has a couple of brass plates that ATTEMPT to cover the hole, but they're obviously not stock...again, thanks...

Sail Stop
It's called a sail stop and it's a flat metal plate with a washer and thumbscrew. The metal plate goes in the sail track below the sail slugs and the thumbscrew tightens to hold it in place. You can get one at West Marine or Boat US.
