Has anyone done a bottom job in the New Orleans area recently? I have always used Seabrook, but I haven't talked to Dwight since the storm so I don't even know if they are still doing them. Who else does Bottom jobs...I know of Shubert, Sintes, and Seabrook, is there anyone else? Any recommendations...boat is a 37 Gulfstar. How about anyone in the Slidell or Mandeville area?

There is always Maritime Systems on Bayou Bonfouca. They are one of the few places around that allow DIY jobs, if you are so inclined. Either way, warm up your checkbook.

Slidell Marina

As the previous post mentioned, Maritime is Slidell is the only one around here that will let you DIY. Actually it's the only marina in the immediate area now that can pull your boat. I was over there two days ago to check their rates and how full the yard was. The last time I was in there was before Katrina. Prices then were 10 a foot and 10 a day for DIY. Current rates are as follows. 10 bucks a foot to pull, and splash. The yard rates are now 1 dollar per foot per day. WOW I can understand why they have some room. Yard labor rates as quoted to me were 600 per day. Their labor rates over there always seemed high to me, but for a DIY, ten per day didn't seem bad. But when I was in there before and did a bottom job on my 28, they quoted me 1200 labor, just to do the prep, and I had no blisters. I am going to check around and if I find any better rates I will post them up. Would certainly appreciate anyone knowing of any better rates to chime in on this. Trouendle over in Pensacola, quoted a friend of mine 2300 ( think thats right) complete for a bottom job on his H36. At the rates I am finding, that is beginning to look more and more attractive for my 37.

last year I hauled my 30 Pearson at Fletches boatyard. It is a mainly DIY yard. Bill was $10 a foot, total bill for 7 days on the hill was, I think $450. I will call Dick Dixon today as he was down there yesterday helping another friend with a prop change, he may have info on current rates. Frank

Lizard creek boat yard on the Tickfaw

Give Lizard Creek Boatyard a call. (225.294.5227) Bob allows DIY. He will work with you on the per day charge, depending on how much work you want him to do. You can do as much as you want, or as I did, none. It was really too much "blue" for me. The trip to LCB takes about 4 to 5 hours, from the causeway. It is located off of Blood river. Clearance at the Tickfaw river bridge is 50'. Plenty of depth, just follow the markers real close at the mouth of the Tickfaw. Bob does all sorts of repairs on sail and powerboats. The charge for our 30' was $30.00 a foot for the bottom job, plus the paint, plus $165.00 haulout and pressure wash fee. I also had him do some fiberglass repair in the cockpit area. Nice guy to do business with! From I-12, take the Springfield exit and go towards the statepark.

WOW & Damn

The prices at Lizard Creek sound really attractive. But with a 50' bridge I can't get in there. The search continues.
