Does anyone have any experience with anchoring/visiting Ship Island? I've noticed that the tourist boats seem to be running again, and I was wondering if anyone has recent experience anchoring/overnighting at Ship, and if there are any local knowledge items that would be good to know that have changed since Katrina.

Thanks

the tour boats have no effect on anchoring as long as you stay away from the dock...be careful --anchor in a bout 25 ft because bottom comes up reallly fast....the tour boats normally quit running late in evening....we usually anchor 100 yds west of the dock--between there and the end of the island...be careful because everything has changed...

Not much has changed

Not much has changed over there, as far as anchoring goes. Last few times I have been have anchored up west of the cruise boat dock. Either side is OK far as I know. They are getting things back in some semblance of order, and I just read another post on another board, someone had been in the past few days, and they now have porta potties and drinking water on the island. Just watch out for the quick shoaling as you approach. Was anchored over there one night last summer, on a friends boat. Were in over 25 feet of water, and woke up about three AM bumping bottom when the tide changed and swung us around.
