Hello, I just painted the bottom of my boat and noticed how bad my swing keel is. The area around the pivot shaft has worn to a much larger hole. The stopper screw has worn a groove and won't unscrew. Large chunks of iron are gone. I covered it with epxoy resin and filled in all divets, but the pivot hole looks a bit bigger than epoxy might fix. I think it would be easier to just get a decent replacement keel. At any rate I am looking for a decent swing keel. Thanks,

Noah, Although I've since moved on to a Catalina 250, Irebuilt the swing keel on my previous c22. Looking in the archives here, you will find instructions. I've been told that the early keels through about 1980 were basically cast in the beach in mexico. sand was scooped and shaped, and them molten steel was poured in the gouge on the beach. They all have pocks and craters the size of Golfballs, that were filled with "bondo" prior to being faired with epoxy. As for the pivot hole you need to lower and remove the keel ( about 550 lbs ( I did it with 3-4 buddies) Have the machine shope drill a perfectly perpendicular hole, and then drive a stainless bushing to reshim the hole. Catalina direct ( In sacramento Ca. sell a new pin and mounting system with great instructions. They've sold 1000's call them they will lead you through the project
