I sold my last boat nearly 10 years ago and have had an itch that needed scratching lately. This time (for now, anyway) I wanted something I could bring home and keep in the garage when not in use and today I found a 79 Javeline. It's not in too bad of shape - the biggest issues being the last attempt to repaint the hull is peeling so I'll need to sand and redo the entire hull. The tack of the main is ripped off. Looks like it can be repaired but I'll probably just keep this as a spare after repairing it..AND...the cockpit drain is corroded and clogged. Any pointers to sites having parts (especially that drain) and a manual would be greatly appreciated.

They sell it at D R marine ,since you are going to remove it anyway I would just repair it. I too have a 79 Javelin I restored mine . I also have the blue paint . I do have the main sail it is not crisp ,and I have never tried it or opened it up all the way ,I just bought new since I restored it. I don't have a manual but I could take pictures of how I rigged it. I did add a spinnaker to mine witch I have only been able to use one time.

Hello there, I also just picked up a 14’ Javelin, I can’t find a manual either, so I was wondering if I can change the wheel the pulls up the heel/center board to a small wrench and bolt it to the fiberglass in front of the boom where the little storage shelf is?

I didn't make any changes to the boat itself ,just made it look like new again. The later models they made a change to the centerboard lifting system ,take a pretty good pull to lift it. The ropes are always flipping around ,in the picture the centerboard was not hooked up at the time.

Getting anxious to get her in the water The only additions would be ,the spinnaker hardware as there was none, topping lift , tiller tamer .I repurposed the stern navigation light holder ,to hold the boom up off the stern when traveling, I also added a saddle that plugs into the rudder guides to support the mast when traveling on the road and keep it off the back of the boat also. Barry if you do decide to keep the boat for a long period of time look into the mast hinge it is so easy to put up the mast and you will no longer have to drop it into the hole. For me the sailing season is coming to a end maybe 4-6 weeks and that's about it .
So, I raised the mast today for the first time. I did it while still on the trailer rather than trying to do it with the boat on the ground and .....that's it. I need to see how yours was done. I really anticipate going out alone quite often and won't be having help to step the mast every time. Today there was very little wind and still it had me seeing all sorts of possible disasters if I were to drop that on somebody's car near the ramp Maybe practice makes perfect but it would only take one drop to ruin the day and I'd rather not
Maybe practice makes perfect but it would only take one drop to ruin the day and I'd rather not Barry I agee you made the right choice doing that on the trailer ,off the trailer it is very wild as the boat rocks side to side. I think if you bought that set up from dr marine it would come with some instructions as to where you should make the cut. The mast is very stable with this system. With my other boat the mast was 28 feet and I would do it way off to one side ,putting it up in the center of the parking lot it would hit up to 3 cars if I lost it. Think of it as an insurance policy.
