New Oday Owner needs help.

I have acquired a beat up oday 19 that needs some love. I am a first time sailboat owner and novice sailor. I need help or advice about the fore sail. There currently is not one and I need to know what my option are to get one set up. It looks like it had a rolling furler before but parts are missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Where to find parts? What other options I have etc.

The O'Day 19 is a great boat.
If you plan to use the boat much, roller furling is well worth the investment.

What brand of roller furler do you have? Can't help you find parts if you don't know the specifics of the unit.

Just got a Harken small boat furler today. Google that. If you have the jib and it's on a wire these may work. This will be your most inexpensive option.

I ran a 1/4" down haul line at each of the hank clips tied to the top of the jib with a simple bowline, turned through a shackle at the stem going directly back to the cockpit. Eventually it will run through some bull's eyes, but for now this is a quick and easy way to douse the jib while standing in the companionway.

I wanted to test the worst case situation with the down haul line going through every hank-on clip. It worked very well - never snagged in the 15 knot wind today. I use a CDI fuller on my Capri 22 and have been very happy with it. But since we will be trailering the O'Day 19, the hank on jib with the down haul keeps things very simple.
