I recently bought an older Oday 20. I am exited about this purchase. I love the boat. One big problem though... The swing keel is stuck in the up position. What do I do? Has anybody else had this happen to them? how do I fix it? I need help guys ,please email me richmdoe@gmail.com

I have an '81 O'day 19 and had a similar problem.I was redoing the bottom paint anyway so,while on blocks I removed the board and cleaned up into the trunk which had plenty of grime stuck up in there.Then I sanded all the old paint off the board and repainted.Also was a good time to replace the pendant line.Funny thing is,after all that the board still sticks a bit.I have to be careful not to pull the board up tightly.When it sticks up I have been able to disllodge it with a hop in the cockpit near the centerboard trunk.Good luck with yours!

I also have an Oday 20. My swing keel was actually a bit loose. I had a slow leak coming from the front brackets of the swing keel. I have also replaced the pendant line going to the back of the swing keel.
If you crank the trailer jack all the way down, you can set wood blocks under the bottom edge of the transom. When you run the jack all the way up, the swing keel should just lift off the trailer enough to have some slack.
I used a couple of concrete blocks with 4x4’s.
I was able to adjust the trailer stands doing this too. Just go slow.
You should then be able to find the binding in the keel slot.
I wouldn’t recommend leaving the boat like this for any extended time, as it puts quite a strain on the front bow line.
I would also suggest chocking the trailer tires as the weight shifts.
To change out the pendant line required a lot more cribbing and a hoist. I took mine to work and used a forklift and large nylon rigging straps.
You might be able to do it with alternately cribbing the transom and adding blocks under the front end of the hull, but I would hate to hear you were squished.

i find it fairly easy to change the pendant with a mask and snorkel in the water. i have cut the line at the board and just retied it a couple times as that is where it tends to wear the most. i also changed it by taping the new line to the end of the old and pulled it through, removed the tape and tied off the new line.
so far, i have not had a problem with a sticking board.
i did have a problem with the cockpit drain hose and just changed it out after first plugging the trough hull fitting with a 3/4 in expanding rubber plug by going under the boat. this drain is a terrible design with 2 90 degree turns with in about 12 inches and little space from the underside of the cockpit to the cabin floor. the hose i installed only 3 years ago failed due to the sharp 90s. i think the original was a prebent radiator hose from a 1973 dodge dart which is no longer available : )
