What advantage is this over google earth, google maps or my Bluechart? Am I missing something?

Google earth and google maps do not have nautical charts with depth data and ATONs. Bluechart doesn't have satellite imagery for most areas... Sometimes, satellite imagery is a good thing, since some problems for boats can show up on it...

It's a basic route planning overlay of google satellite maps. I've alwayts thought a measuring tool would be a natural feature of the google satellite/road/terrain maps. I guarantee google will add this feature to its service soon...they should have done it long ago.

google earth has charts--i havent searched them but i uploaded them into my other lappy at home----they are very interesting......thankyou for this info--is always good to have multiples of data sources....

Google earth doesn't run well on my old laptop. I am talking about the map function on google home page, not the add on app.

Good for bareboating

I find these mapping programs helpful when Im going to new harbors or bareboating into new areas. I printout the bays/anchorages so I have a birdseye view of where im going. Plus I can look at it at home before I get there.

Old site was better

New controls are fairly clunky and the waste way too much screen real estate.

i a m running linux on this lappy--is a strange thing to deal with as a non programmer lol....am still attempting to figger it out...i like it well enough--much faster than windows--but have to be prepared for a lot of big changes..lol...like installing stuff is waay different---but the end result is good...
