New NOAA Chart App for Android

I tried this app and it's ok for viewing charts, but wasn't very intuitive or practical for certain tasks. For example, I tried to measure the distance between two points and instead of dragging the point, you must drag the map from a particular point. Of course, I didn't spend too much time or explore all of the features. I could very well be doing it wrong. Displaying charts seemed to be acceptable. It's free though...at least until September.
Downloaded it to my Nexus10.
Almost identical to "MX Mariner", which I had downloaded earlier this year....
but free ! (Although MX Mariner isn't much)... and has "Coast Pilot(s) if you want that information.
Not a bad nav program... I used 'MX Mariner' and 'HarborFinder' to help navigate Norfolk down to Ocracoke, & eastern NC., the week before 4th of July. Both were very helpful.
Nice thing about all of the new tablet nav programs is that all of the charts are the most up to date versions.
Although they all need improvement, (which will certainly come with time) I would recommend it.
Heard through thee grapevine that phones are coming in September. Oh, Wait. Sorry. We're talking about guvmint. :Liar: Make that September 2015.Beta is for android tablets only, not phones.
Tried it out lightly this weekend. It's simple, not a lot of fixins but should at very least be a fine backup to our Garmin. We don't actually plot our course since we never get past 10 miles from land, usuallywithin 5, and we can see what we need to. But for fog or darkness, it will be another good round in the chamber.
