New mast came with wrong base

Hunter 235 Lake Patoka
My Hunter 235 mast arrived and the base is not the same as the old mast. The smaller base came with the new mast. So my question is , Is it safe to apply new self tapping #14 screws into the base plate? I figure there will be at least a half inch separation from the holes that are there from securing the larger base.

You should be able to get the correct base right here at the SBO store. I've ordered several spar parts here and when they didn't have what I needed already in stock, they found it for me.

@novadka44 sent me some information. It appears he may have two different sizes of masts which calls for a US Spars Z 190. The mast steps are different. I am dealing with Al Fooks whose company sold the mast that came from US Spars. Concerns
1. Is the new mast a Z190.
2. Is the embedded aluminum plate will fit
for a new mast step.
3. Rigging is a concern if it will fit
4. Width of both mast bottoms
5. Height of masts needed

With that information we can figure this out

@RitSim

I have the mast mfg and sailboat owners owner involved. I am the one who submitted the plans for the first water ballast hunter 23.5. I am handling and coordinating between the other two to resolve the issue

The Hunter 23.5 is fitted with a Z-190 mast; however, there are two mast steps with each having a mast foot that are different. Each mast step has a different bolt pattern. The original mast step was larger while the newer one has a smaller bolt pattern. My concern is the embedded aluminum plate in the deck of the 23.5 will it accommodate both bolt patterns. I did inqurie with Hunter owners prior to the Hurricane but it will be some time before they respond to my request for information.

You can when reordering a mast for the 23.5, take measurements of the four bolt hole pattern holding the mast step to the deck requesting the appropiate mast step.

However, you can improvise should the mast step is not damaged, order a 1/2 inch aluminum plate the size of the old mast step with the larger holes predrilled from a machine shop near you.. Then take the smaller mast step and drill and tap for the new mast step to be attached to the aluminum plate
