Hi all you sailors out there. Have a look at how2marine.com, this web site although under construction has some useful information on boat maintenance. We are building it gradually. So if you keep track of it you should see more articles and pictures added daily. My plan is to build a great resource for all boaties as a referance. I built the flash site but had to include html to get the search engines to pick it up. So the html site needs more work. So have a look at the flash site. Email me your articles and I will add them. At the moment the trade directory is for Queensland, Australia. and still has a way to go. Anyway its free. No costs if you wnat to add your trade services. Enjoy Mikegibbo Curlew Beneteau 461

very nice

I like your use of Flash. Very nice and easy to understand. I think it will be a great site once it is completed.

The key word is gradually.

You will gain sailors attention, but if the built up is to slow you will loose them forever real quick. The presentation is AAA now lets see the substance. Don't get me wrong, I wish you well as these pages are needed.

Is this what we need?

Like Ken Palmer, I found the flash page a bit over the top - a little irritating, to tell the truth. Aesthetically, I'd personally use the html in preference. The concept is great, and could serve a real need. I wonder, though, if this isn't more targeted to stinkpot owners than to sailors. That's ok, but wouldn't serve my needs. To give some examples: currently, I'm planning to replace my standing rigging, so that's the kind of info where I need help. Other examples of what I think diy sailors would find helpful: how a cunningham works, and how to rig one; ditto for adjustable backstay; outhaul; etc. The different features of a sail (eg main shelf) and how to think about what your boat needs (eg. shelf vs loose footed). Deck delamination, and how to repair it. Keel bolt replacement. Tuning the rig. etc. etc. I'm bookmarking your site, and wish you every success with it. Dick

Nice idea but...

I find the Flash more than a little irritating, I find it a real turn off. I like the DIY approach with simple clear steps with pictures. I looked at the Winch Service (Lewmar) and Installing a Folding Prop. I would have found it more useful if I could have seen more than one step at a time.. Once again, just my preference and may not be others.... Nice idea.. Clearly a market need. Good luck

Will add some Video soon

Thanks for your comments. I like the animation of flash and hope to include some video links to some of the maintenace topics later. I have a lot of ideas, as an owner of a beneteau 461 i know how hard it is to get the right advise. So as it develops it should be a very comprehensive information tool. Check back every now and again. Mike

I am a yachty too

Hi Dick, Thanks for your comments. I am a yachty too, I have a beautiful Beneteau 461, that is why I started the site. It is so hard getting the correct info. I will continue to add to the site and I will check with my rigging friend at All Yacht Spares to get an article on rigging. So keep in touch with the site. I am adding content daily. The professional services at this stage are east coast Australia, but if you want to nominate a service that you have used that you are happy with, lets get it up there. The whole idea is to get the site to grow through people supplying me with content for all to see. So spread the word and it will grow. Thanks MikeG

To all that replied

Thanks so much for the feedback. I will take onboard as much as I can. There is now a HTML as well as a Flash site as well as the how2marine forum. The html needs the maintnenace content added and I am working on that right now. The professional services at this stage are east coast Australia, but if you want to nominate a service that you have used that you are happy with, lets get it up there. The whole idea is to get the site to grow through people supplying me with content for all to see. So spread the word and it will grow. So keep in touch with the site as it is growing daily. MikeG

Once again nice job with the site...

and an idea that is without country borders. Go for it. For what it is worth, I have documented several projects on our website. Some are boat specific and others are of general interest. You are welcome to link to any of the projects. www.sailingseadragon.com Franklin, you are correct I am an old fart, but worst than that I am beginning to sound my parents. Mike good luck with the website. I will continue to watch it.
