I need to replace my mainsheet on my 1984 Hunter 27. I would appreciate any advise on what type of sheet I should purchase.

Thanks
Roy

Lots of opinions

You will probably get lots of opinions on this one. Here is mine. First be sure to buy good quality rope, regardless of brand. My personal preferance for a sheet or halyard is Sta Set. I think the Sta Set X is somewhat stiffer, and the standard Sta Set is a little more flexible and kinder to the hands. But as I said, others will chime in I'm sure, with some other opinions. But no one will tell you to buy cheap rope, and if they do, ignore them. You can save a few bucks but will soon regret this decision.

StaSet Lines

Nice N Easy's recommendation of New England's Sta-Set is a good one. For sheets I prefer the Sta-Set, and for halyards I would recommend the Sta-Set X as it has less stretch than the regular Sta-Set.

mainsheets

any good "club race" quality line will be fine. New England, Yale, Samson, Marlow etc. all make great quality cordage. The most important thing is how the sheet runs through the blocks and how if feels in your hands. Your block system will limit line size selection.

I like the Samson Trophy Braid, it has the fuzzy feel... but I changed it out after a few years because it was getting stiff and not running through the blocks very well. I replaced it with solid color, black, New England Sta-Set because it was on sale at West Marine one weekend. Black because the mainsheet stays out side all the time and the solid color doesn't show dirt like the white stuff, and I went down one size to 5/16 because I wanted it to run freely.... which it does very nicely. I really like it....
