Hello Folks; I have heard that there is a new regulation requiring a safer leakproof triangular shaped valve (handle) near the regulator for our LP stove gas. The question is: where does one find those mini custom sized tanks to fit perfectly in the port transom locker's floor cut-out? And, I guess, the new compliant valve to go with it? Also: any recommendations on radar? Practical Sailor says JRC 1500 is a great starter job, but my shipyard guy swears by Furono, which PS loathed!

propane tanks

If they are like mine - they are not custom. you can buy them at most camping and hunting supply stores.

Available almost anywhere that sells propane

I'm buying alum tanks from a stove shop. ALL propane tanks need to have the new OPV valve or they won't fill it. You can have the old valve replaced. It is worth the conversion on small alum tanks which are about 160 bucks! Scott

Raymarine

I support anyone who wants to install a radar. I think it is a great investment in safety. I am impressed with the Raymarine SL72 Plus Pathfinder Radar. They describe it as "entry level" but unless you need a two station monitor I think it does a great job. It takes some time to learn how to read a radar screen and it's best to go out in fair weather and use it to visually check what is seen on the screen with reality. For instance, on a recent trip I had a dive boat on a collision course with my boat and he would not budge. I could see clearly on radar what was going on and have much more confidence in interpreting the radar information. At least check out this unit from Raymarine before you decide.

Marina del Ray?! Oh, boy.

Thanks, everyone. I am new to daring to use a forum, and it's fun (productive). I hope this isn't like preserved for eternity however... So, Bruce, you must run into good ol' Jim Bohart out there? Hunter's finest... Yes, Practical Sailor loved the SL72. It's just about a thousand bucks more for double the watts, which I think I may skip for a true "entry level experience!" Plus the JRC can detach from a simple mount on my 336's pedestal! And Bill: are you sure the Hunter 336 propane is not a custom small tank?
