Is your boat 26' or larger? Are you only planning take it to FL for a visit or will you be moving there and therefore mooring and/or registering it in FL?

FL decided that all vessels 26' + are "houseboats," ( [FONT=&quot]"a vessel which, for a period of time determined by the State in which the vessel is located, is used primarily as a residence and is not used primarily as a means of transportation.[/FONT]) and therefore [FONT=&quot]"A State may adopt and enforce a statute or regulation with respect to the design, manufacture, or installation or use of any marine sanitation device on a houseboat, if such statute or regulation is more stringent than (federal) standards and regulations."

That little section of Title 33 in the US Code of Federal Regulations gave FL the legal right to decide that ALL "houseboats" MUST have an installed toilet and Type I, II, or III MSD...(Types I and II are treatment devices, Type III is a holding tank).

So if you're just gonna visit FL, your bucket and Doodoo Doodad system will prob'ly be allowed...but if your boat is at 26' or larger and gonna live there, you'll prob'ly have to replace it with an "installed" system.

Thanks, the boat is 25 feet 10 inches, so under the 26 foot mark. We will be visiting, but might be down there for 3 months and hope to be anchored out away from marinas as much as possible.

I started reading all the $5000 fines thinking it was a MSD I and then finally realize it came under the portable category, so we should be ok.

My first thoughts are that while it looks to be neat that it wouldn't be legal in a boat unless they had it certified to MSD I, II or III standards. Now if it was portable it might get around that, but that might be hard to do with the connections require for fuel, 12 vdc or 110 ac and the vent.

I tried reading through the links Peggie listed and that is my conclusion from those, but they also made my head hurt :cry:, so I didn't read them all .

Nice to post it though as someone might have a cabin or something where it would work great.
