Hi, Thanks for the look. I am hoping that someone could help me with a mast issue. I have recently became the owner of a early 1970's Javelin that has a boom but no mast. I searched around looking for a used mast but only found an Oday 19 mast and boom for a great price. I couldn't say no and thought that I could trade, sell or modify the through deck and step to accommodate the larger mast. The Javelin has a 1.75 / 2.75 inch profile at .824 lb/ft The 19's mast seems to be 2.25 / 3.75 inch at 1.14 lb/ft at 24 feet it doesn't seem that it would make this boat top heavy? Would it? The difference is 7 and change lbs. Any ideas or suggestions. I would love to find the correct mast and not modify the deck at the same time I am considering a hinged tabernacle and I am guessing I will have to open the hole to do this anyway. Also, this boat is for my daughter. I was hoping that she could one day use this boat for some local races when she is ready to leave ours. Can't be crew forever I guess... but wondering if this would disqualify the boat in anyway from club racing. I don't think an issue where I am but this is a trailer able and she is a mover and a shaker. Thank You for any input or opinions, Ian

Ian, You may be able to get away with it on this boat. I had an early model Javelin years ago with the 55 lbs centerboard and it was a very stable boat compared to the later Javelins. Mine didn't have a small cuddy. It was more of an open boat. Keep in mind that the older Javelins may have had more stability than the newer ones, but a little speed may have been sacrificed. Putting a heavier mast on this boat may make it sail a little slower. The only guy I know who would have an answer for you is Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine in Assonet Ma. Rudy knows O'Days in and out. He owns all the O'Day molds and bought all their parts when they went out of business. He currently has Widgeons built and puts them together at his shop. Give him a call. (508)644-3001 Joe
