New Javelin owner questions

I recently purchased a Javelin. I don't know what year it is and hope someone can assist with the hull ID number. The Class number is 1769 and the hull number is 24404.

I'm having an issue bringing the swing keel up. The keel seems to bind as it comes up. I researched in the forums and it should have a wire connecting down to the keel. On my boat I only see a rope and it makes me wonder if a knot connecting the rope to the keel is binding. The corner of the cover where the ropes comes from the keel is broken and the rope is visible. How long is wire and should this be visible in the rigging in the hull itself?

Thanks.

First, the fact that your boat is ID'd by a Hull# and Class# reveals that she was built prior to November 1, 1972 and does not have a 12-digit Hull ID Number. From the Hull# (which refers to total production of all O'DAY models) I would say this boat is a late 1969 or early 1970 model. The 1970 and earlier models did not have a self-bailing cockpit and the seats were separate from the deck. The area under the forward deck is all open on htse boats and there is a flotation tank in the bow that forms a shelf under the forward deck. (see pics below)
The CENTERBOARD (not swing-keel) is a 49# galvanized steel plate and may be rusted causing it to bind as it comes up, or the pendant (lift line/wire) may be frayed or has slid between the CB and the inside of the CB trunk. Or maybe a previous owner replaced the cable with rope?
I have attached pics of a couple of different JAVELINs (1969 and 1967 models) for comparison, it should show the basics of how the CB pendant was rigged on those older boats.

If none of these pictures match your boat in style, let me know, I have pics of newer boats too!

Thanks for the detailed reply. The pictures do match my boat. The only difference is the middle pic which shows a large diameter pulley. My boat has onlya single 2" pulley for the center board. I'll try to get a look underneath at the condition of the centerbaord. Thanks again.
