Hey All
I got my wife an iPhone 6 for the holidays.... so I'll be soon inheriting her older iPhone 5 :)D)

I've never owned an i-anything before....

I'd like to load one very user friendly weather app and one very user friendly navigation app.

Preferable free but I'll pay (a little) for quality.

What are your favorites?

I think the best weather app is Dark Sky. Not necessarily a boaters app but for foul weather it is extremely accurate within a 30 second time frame. For example, based upon your location it will tell you that it will begin to rain within 30 seconds.

Thnx

My wife is scrubbing the old phone tomorrow and I take possession.

I really like Intellicast but also use Intellicast for Boating.

I also use Weathertrac because it allows you to get the GRIB files which show wind patterns and projections which can be very helpful.

All around favorite weather app in Intellicast.

Dark Sky and WeatherBug for weather forecasts and weather maps. Pocket Grib for wind conditions.
Enjoy your iPhone.

For nav apps the Garmin Bluecharts Mobile is the best deal I've found. Costs around $50 but has all of the charts for North America! Also includes all of the Active Captain data points which are great for all of the cruiser comments. These charts turn your iPhone into a great stand alone chart plotter as a backup or as mobile plotter for exploring and fishing in your dinghy.

Couple other free apps you might like-

WINDALERT- gives real time winds at all the surrounding weather stations near you, OR is scrollable to other areas

AyeTides- gives tide info for nearest stations, or you can select a place geographically

MyRadar- gives visuals on radar returns across the country and can be zoomed in for local

Thanks TSBB: All of those sound like something I'd use.

Navionics

We have the Navionics navigation app. If you go offshore, be sure to download the charts for the area you want before you go. They come with it, but they rely on the data connection to load based on your location or where you zoom in. We also got the Carib & S. America charts to cover the Virgin Islands and elsewhere in between. Very good features and detail. Not cheap, but worth them money, I think.
