Hello fellow Oday fans. I have a 1982 Oday 23 that is in pretty good shape except I need to get new interior cushions. AS I hope to upgrade to a larger boat this fall, can anyone suggest where I can get new cushion without spending a fortune.

We made our own
Jim we took the old chusions to a fabric store and they cut the foam for us. We had no idea what we were doing so we bought some inexpensive fabric at least the first time around. My wife and I taught oursleves how to do it. I laid the foam on the fabric and used a block of wood as a spacer to mark; so that we could properly size the material. My wife than took it to the sewing machine. The first ones worked but were not the pretiest things I have seen, however by the time we got to the seventh one they were down right beautiful. We used velcro on the ends so we could remove them for the laundry. This is the fourth season since we have made them. Had them off several times through the wash and they have held up well. The funny thing about it is I am a cabinet maker by trade, took one look at the sewing machine bopping up and down and declared it the scariest piece of machinery I have ever seen. I left that up to my wife for all I could see was my fingers sewed to the fabric in an instant. Next time around we would use a better than average fabric and use zippers in place of the velcro. The velcro works but picks up debree to easily. At least in our area having them made for us was more than the boat was worth. Good luck Jim. In the end we had fun doing it. If you mess it up that bad just toss the fabric and try again.

We recently re-covered all the cushions on our O'Day 25. My girlfriend had some experience with similar projects so she was willing to do the work herself. But it was pretty time consuming. The foam was re-useable so she cut apart all the seams of the existing cushions and used the old fabric as a pattern for the new fabric (Sunbrella we purchased at a local fabric outlet). Using the old fabric as a pattern was the key to success.

I don't know the actual cost per yard at the outlet (very old school warehouse, no real online option) but we were able get a boats worth of SunBrella, zippers & thread for $300. Even after making some new outside cockpit cushions, we still have fabric left over. I am not sure if the fabric was actual SunBrella or some knockoff.
