Hello,

New to the forum and new to Hunter boats. I recently purchased a 1983 Hunter 34. She's in pretty good shape but I would like to take on some projects over the winter.

Looking forward to meeting and discussing various topics.

Thank you,
Brian

Welcome to the gang, Brian. I think you are going to have fun with her. I have owned my '85 H-34 since '91 .. A fine boat. I am in Mandeville tonight having a pleasant evening in the slip.. a good cigar and a sip of rum.. A mighty fine evening aboard..

Hi Claude,

Thank you for the reply. Not too far away from me....I hope we cross waves with each other on the lake, one day. A cigar and a rum sounds like a VERY nautical evening! :) You must be retired. Some of us still have to work! :(

yes, retired since '08 .. not bored yet! I have been enjoying the boat a lot more since then.. Today was wash down day .. Hadn't had a chance to wash down for a couple of months .. she looks mighty nice again!
EDIT: There are several 34 guys on the forum. Claude Auger has sailed his extensively and has a lot of good info. Really good guy. I met him a year or so ago while he was in Louisiana. The forum search is a good place to look at what others have done.. Betzhunter (Bub) on the forum has done some really nice work inside his 34. I met him and his wife in Slidell and had a good time chatting boats..

Brian,

You are now a member of a very exclusive club. A club of constant tweakers and improvers to our boats. My wife and I have been "dialing" her in since we bought her new in 85. You will find lots of solutions posted to various issues we have all had on this phenominal website. And if you can't find it posted here there are lots of experts availabe to help you. Welcome.

I'm also one of those retired guys (since 2005). Our boat gave us a great getaway from the stresses of work. Now we just continue to enjoy it when we want to.

Welcome Brian, I'm also a new Hunter owner (1980 33") and have been enjoying a "few projects". Like Claude I live in Mandeville and retired last year. We are all here to pass on our knowledge and even sea stories. Hope to see you around the lake.

op need to check ur rudder to see if it got the update, one of my good friends here in p-cola owns the 34 hunter doghouse and it never got the recall mod (original rudder is too damn small) the 34 is a light air boat to begin with and having the original undersized rudder its a very unhappy boat when the wind gets up around 12kts, the small rudder can be worked with but you must, MUST, reef early and aggressively. i am sure these guys can help you determine if it was done, otherwise you will find out when you go full lock in a moderate puff.
