Hello everyone i am a new owner of a 1978 hunter 27. Ive actually owned her now for about 4 months and i live aboard her full time and i couldnt be happier. I enjoy coming home and fixing and learning more and more about her everyday. She has the yanmar inboard diesel engine. And is in fairly good shape her deck is solid her interior was in great shape. But does need to be hauled and scraped cleaned and repainted. This winters project :) ive already made new hatch doors for her and a new cooler cover. Installed a window ac unit in companionway with custom cut slider door to hold ac. I have lots of plans for her and hope to eventually take her down the icw and to the bahamas. :) by the way my name is ray.

Welcome Ray, a lot of us have owned an h27 Cherubini at one time or another and you can find plenty of advise.

Thank you benny. Im sure i will have plenty of questions as i go along. I feel i made a great choice with her as my first boat. I am planning on installing a larger holding tank and rerouting some plumbing as i think it could have been done a lil better lol. I do have one question where is the best place to but replacement port lights. All four of mine need replaced they are not leaking but the crank knobs have broken off and the visor on some are broke.

I haven't done mine yet on my 84 H27 but I have been leaning towards butyl tape. Let the alphabetical lashings begin! Research it, and let me know your thoughts. It might not work for our applications, but the ones I have seen done made a lot of sense. It doesn't harden and flexes, so the seal doesn't brake. That is the theory anyway. Maybe someone else has real life experience with this application?

From what ive read i guess the best is a dupony 295 sealant i believe. Whatever is best and last the longest i want to use as she is my fulltime home. When we pull her out this winter we plan to go threw all the systems on her as well. New seacocks all new hosing bigger holding tank and new water tank. Remove motor for a freshen up. And all new hoses. Scrape and paint bottom and new shaft and rudder. New packings. Uhhh the list goes on and on. It is a love affair thankfully i have a understanding woman. Lol

consider a compost toilet

You may want to consider a composting head. We have looked at them for our H25. They will enable you to use less gallons in your holding tank. There are several threads in this site and Sailnet.com regarding its use.
