I am new to this list. I have just purchased a 96 H26. After owning a Mac 26X, I just decided to get a nicer big boat. So here I am and I can't wait until the weather gets warmer so I can get the boat in the water. I look forward to reading all the good info that seems to be on this list. Regards, Ken Lockhart

I've been using Hunterowner.com (previously Hunter Owner's Web or HOW) since 1995 when I started thinking about the H26. I bought one in 1996 and have been posting questions, answers, and comments ever since. There is an extensive archive of common problems for new owners (trailering, motoring, mast raising), ideas for project (adding batteries, connecting the rudder to the motor), and lessons learned (make sure the boat is INSIDE NOT ABOVE the guide poles before pulling the trailer out.) Great Boat
Hi Ken, we used to have the same year and make. We loved the boat. With that huge cockpit we seemed to host our share of happy hours dockside. One of the best and no cost alterations I did was to raise the saloon table. It really opens up the cabin when you need more room. Check the archives for this and many other informative postings from a lot of knowledgable sailors. Enjoy the boat and remember reef early. Jeff

Congrats on the New Hunter Ken. I'm sure you've noticed quite a few of us on the water around town. Where will you be keeping her? We own a 240 and have been at Eagle Creek for years. We kept her on the trailer in the secured dry dock at the park. This is the first year we didn't win the space lottery so we're keeping the Orion down at Lake Monroe this summer.

You'll enjoy the H26. If you're ever down this way look us up. We sail Kentucky Lake and moor on Barkley at Green Turtle Bay. I bet you'll miss that 50 HP on the back of the Mac. Tried racing a Mac once while motoring and couldn't imagine why I never caught up. From a distance all I could see was the number 5 on the back of the engine cowling. They moor at the same place as we do so as I passed by their slip I got a good look at the engine. DUH!!! Paul H S/V Linda Belle 95 H26

Thanks Paul, I do miss motoring the Mac 26X, but I will not miss the sailing of it. Although they are not a bad boat, it does not compare to the H26. By the way, I bought my boat at KY lake from the good folks at the Lighthouse Landing. They are the Hunter dealer, as you probably already know. They are putting VC 17 on the boat, so I will not pick it up until first of April. They seem like nice folks to do business with. Ken

Keeeping Boat at ECSC
I will be keeping the boat at the Eagle Creek Sailing Club. I have been a member their for 30 years. I also have a S2 6.9 that I raced last year. I keep a poontoon boat in a slip at Monroe. So if I get that urge to go 25 mph, I just hop on the pontoon boat. I sold my Mac 26X about two years ago, I just did not like the way it sailed. Like I said earlier, it is a great boat for some folks, but not for me.

that you already know this little pond quite well. Look for us on our H260 Water Lily. We were actually able to sail on January 2nd this year, but haven't been able to get on the water since. Maybe this weekend if the rain holds off. We have kept our boat in the dry dock with Kenand Karen's Orion the last two years and were one of the lottery picks again this year. Good luck with you H26. Do you have a name on her, we'll have to keep an eye out.

I always like to go there with the family for a week in the summer, I think we may have a few boats at the club go as a group this summer. I look forward to meeting you in the near future. Ken: We have been discussing with the other Ken (Orion), a potential trip to Lake Michigan for this summer. We would certainly like to do it as part of a group. My email address is listed in the directory of this site. By the way, we sailed this past Saturday afternoon and experienced an increase in wind from around 15 mph to 35 mph (not gusts) in about 30 seconds. Not what I like to deal with on a shake-down sail early in the spring. It also made docking at the dry dock boat ramp interesting. Three very nice fishermen helped us tie up.

I will be bringing my boat bact to Indy from KY Lake this next weekend. I have a few things I need to do before I put in my slip at the club, so it will probably be a few weeks before I get it in the water. Maybe we could get a group of Hunters in the Midwest to trailer to Lake MI this summer. Ken
