I am currently considering the purchase of the new Hunter 25. Does anyone have any reviews on this boat. It will be moored all season and am wondering of its quality and how it will hold up year after year. How does it sail, as I will be sailing in Nantucket sound where it can be a little rough at time. Also it comes with a Tohatsu 9.8, is this a good motor. Im going back into sailing after having a motor boat for the past 5 years and hope I am making a good purchase. Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much in advance.

I have had mine 5 months now
I have been very pleased with my new hunter 25. There are a few little things that are irritating, and could have been done better, but nothing serious. On the list of things I would like done better are the following. The bimini top window placement is just wrong. They should have put it more toward the rear, so that you can see the windex from the helmsman seat. That will be fixed this winter by my adding a second window. The head is really small. I would have rather had a bit less seating in the cabin and a bit more room in the head. Just 8 to 10 inches more in front for legroom would be great. The roller furling line and the anchor interfere as they are both on the same side. If you have the furler line tied on a cleat when you go forward to get the anchor out of the locker, then you can't get the anchor in the water without loosening the furler line so that the anchor can be put under the line and on the bow roller. The rudder will not flip up out of the water like the older small hunters. My favorite things about the boat. Lots of space. Sails pretty easily even with six adults aboard. I prefer only having four or fewer though. The wheel steering is a must have, especially if you want to sail with more than four adults. It is placed way back toward the stern so it really does not take away much functional cockpit space. The stern rail seats are the best seats. Everyone loves them. This boat is very easy to sail. I often sail the boat by myself with my Admiral just laying there sunning in the cockpit. All the controls are set up well. The boat is very well balanced and will sail itself with the wheel locked and the sails set in steady winds. The steering of the boat is very sensitive as the rudder is huge. Also weight distribution changes will affect steering as in most lighter boats. I decided to go with a yamaha 8 horse 4 stroke high thrust with controls and electric tilt. I would highly recommend the Yamaha. You don't have to have the tohatsu. I don't however, make any claim to the quality of the tohatsu as I have not used one.

The shoal keel is great.
The shoal keel was one of my requirements for buying a new boat. I wanted something without the maintenance of a swing keel, but that still had shallow water ability. I considered going with the new 27, but decided on the 25 due to the ability to trailer it. I mostly lake sail, but the trailer allows me to take the 3 hour drive to the coast if I feel like it. I think hunter got it right this time.
