new heat exchanger

Hi, all - replacing the heat exchanger on my universal m25xp on our Catalina30. Is it a straight switch-out, or do I need to fill the unit with antifreeze/water before install? Also, assuming I can do this when the boat is in the water..?

No need to fill the unit, the air will purge out just fine. Just remember to turn off the raw water intake. Also best to disconnect the hose going to the closed system water pump to drain the anti freeze out, it is easier to catch in a small bucket to avoid a big mess.

You'll also need to BURP the engine if you have a hot water heater.

when you order the ht exchanger be sure to order the front and rear gaskets. most retailers forget to tell you you need to plan to redo the gaskets...
