New Headstay..... Stretch

Hello all...

This weekend I am assembling my new Schaefer 2100 Furler and new headstay prior to my launch next week (mast is down). When I set my pin to pin measurments, should I be compensating for any "stretch" in the new headstay?

The 2100 Furler does allow one to get to the turnbuckle after the system is assembled and up, but just wanted some feedback on this from you experienced smart engineers out there.

How did you get the pin-to-pin measurement? Was the mast at the proper rake when it was unstepped? If yes and you used that measurement you should be fine. Any stretch over time can be taken up by the backstay.

A new headstay will go through an initial stretch after the rig is tensioned. The final length of the headstay is completely predicated on the amount of mast rake needed. If you have in line spreaders the backstay provides the headstay tension. After applying tension to the rig for the first time the headstay length can then be adjusted for proper mast rake.

All the above... plus such cable should already be 'pre stretched' but it will take some time for all the individual wires in the bundle to come to their final 'steady state' position in the helical 'bundle'. Simply check the wire tension after short term usage at repetitive high loading to be 'sure'.
Typical ss cable tension @ 15% will 'stretch' approx 3mm per meter at 15%, 6mm at 30%

Ed Got the measurement from the old headstay. Had mast down, old furling off, turnbuckle exposed (to see setting) and matched the pin distance.
