new head

hi all, new project, my head, is currently a disaster. I am going to install a new Raritan head, and replumb, system, y valve for hold tank, or overboard, y valve for marina system pump out, or pump over discharge. My question is, new hold tank. I can just fit a 24 gallon tank. What do u think, I know larger would be better, custom tank seems to be out, one est was $$$$ tooling and tank price.....Red

I have just over 30 on my Hunter, but you don't want to leave a lot of waste between visits anyway (preferably none) and when you are out sailing or cruising, you have other options, so I think you are plenty good with 24 gallons. 30 will do us for about three to four days of full time use. OTOH, we're both pretty small...

Have you checked the Ronco Plastics catalog?

They make TOP quality tanks for a very reasonable price and have more than 400 shapes/sizes, over 100 of which are non-rectangular...and they install fittings in the sizes and locations specified by the customer when they make the tank. Ronco Plastics Marine Catalog

We prob'ly oughta talk where you think the new tank should go, 'cuz boat builders don't always (actually almost never) put 'em where they should have.

nothing wrong with going thru a vendor, but...
If you deal directly with Ronco, you can eliminate one intermediate layer of potential misunderstanding over exactly where you want your gozinta and gozoutas in that new tank.
Don't forget a clean out port, too!

I found them to be great folks to deal with, and sent my drawings by email attachment and they followed them closely.

If you can save some significant $ by going thru a discount vendor and be assured that the tank will be fabricated exactly as required, guaranteed, then that's certainly a worthy approach, also.

Another route is to select a head that minimizes flush water. Lavac's are pretty good. While not cheap, my Raritan electric Elegance with smart control can flush with less water than what's in my morning coffee cup - well, maybe that's an exaggeration but you get the idea

I have chosen a ronco, 24 gallon, fits just behind and slightly above the head.Is the pumpout tube just a hose with a deck fitting, or is there a tube inside. From Don Casey I gather the pumpout is on the bottom side, and inlet at top side. The pump up to the siphon bend is about 3', is this ok? I am a contractor and am familiar with house plumb, so bear with me here if boat has different issues. Is the hose used 1.5" special hose, sanitary type, guessing fewer bends the better in hoses? Red
