I recently bought a 1978 Hunter 30. There is no head or tank. The previous owner states that there was a recirculating head on board which he removed (for some reason). My question is this: What would be the best location for the holding tank on a H30? What size and material? Any recomendations on head type? Cost is a factor, but I'm willing to pay for quailty and convenience. Also if anyone has done this project I would love to hear your advice. Thanks Nick

a recirculating toilet! They hold less than a portapotty, and they stink. Before I can answer your questions about the best location for the tank, I need to ask a few: where is the head located in your boat--forward, or aft in the cabin? What is directly in front of or behind it (looking for space)? The tank should definitely be thick-walled (minimum wall thickness 3/8") plastic (polyethylene). As for the toilet, that depends upon whether you want a manual toilet or an electric toilet. My two favorite manual toilets are the Raritan Ph II and the Raritan Cricket. Before you go too far with this project, check out the articles in the Reference LIbrary in the Head Mistress forum (click on "Head Mistress" in the list, and then look on the right side of the screen when you get there). You'll find a lot of good information about not only the sanitation system and

Thankyou for your response. My head is located forward on the starboard side. The v-berth is in front, and the dining table/double birth is behind. thanks Nick

Oh goody...

Hopefully you have space under your v-berth...'cuz that's the best place for a holding tank on a sailboat (explained in the article called "Odor Control" in the Reference Library in the Head MIstress forum). If you'd like a tank catalog, e-mail me at peghall@bellsouth.net
