I'm looking into getting a new head sail for a hunter 290. It has the standard factory jib. I want a larger sail. Lake sailing with sometimes light air. Can anyone recommend the best size for this boat 120, 130, 155, etc?
It is only made for that size Jib and way too much reason why not because of rigging on your B&G to be in the way and will cause nothing but problems.
This same exact subject been asked many times before on this subject
for the Hunter and always been suggested a spinnaker for light air.
I did own a 2001 290 for about 6 years.

You can use a slightly larger jib with the B&R rig. However, it does need to be cut low and not deep. I am currently running a 135 on my 41. Have a sailmaker measure it. It depends on where your jib cars are and how much travel you have. Seadaddler is correct, you can't go past the spreaders because you are sheeting inside your shrouds.
How's the weather cool and been rainy here in NY,I have heard of some going
very little bigger on the jib like maybe 120 but like butch said you need a good sail maker do it and proper sheeting set up is important.
