New Halyards Too Small for Clutch

Just bought new Halyards from Sailboatowners.com for my 1983 Hunter 34. Followed the site's recommendation to get the 3/8", but when I installed them I realized the Genoa halyard is too small to bind in the old Schaefer clutch. Was it a mistake to buy such small line? Custom cut rigging is not returnable, per the web site. Options:

(1) Sail with the halyard cleated off on the winch.
(2) Buy and install a new clutch ($150 +/-).
(3) Somehow retrofit the existing clutch for this purpose.

Anyone had success with option 3? Any other ideas?

We'll swap it out for you, no worries. Sometimes those old wear down and won't handle the line they were spec'd for.

You can contact us here or through your order status screen.
