New Halyard installation time

Well the new halyards finally showed up. The boat was already sitting in her slip so that meant changing them with the mast stepped. It was my fault as it took so long to get the forestay issue resolved before I could measure for the new halyards. The SBO store shipped them when they said they would and they actually arrived the day we took the boat to the lake but I did not know that till after we got back.
So I went over to swap out the main and jib halyard last night. I cut off the finished end of the main and sewed the new halyard to it. No room in the pulleys for tape. 5 minutes and it was all done. Went to the jib halyard and did the same but I knew this one might create some issues. A PO had changed the halyards at some point and way over sized them. The boat came with 1/4" halyards but they put 3/8" halyards on it. It was ok on the main as the mast head pulley was large enough to handle it but the jib sheave block was stuffed full. So now with the old swelled up lines the jib halyard was a tight fit. Looking back I probably should have cut off more of the finished end than I did. I sewed the new halyard to the old one and started pulling it up. I had resistance the whole way up as the halyard was rubbing on the opening in the mast. When the connection got to the pull it went inside but then it locked up. I tried pulling both ways but it was stuck. I wound up breaking the connection between the two and had to give the old halyard a pretty good yank to get it free. The new halyard feel down on my head and the old one came sliding down out of the mast.
Not the end of the world as we don't really need the jib halyard as we the CDI furler now. I will fish the new one in when we take the boat home in July before we head north with her. Looks a bit odd to not have halyards on both side but such is life. It happens. The 3/8" lines where nice to grip but just a gross overkill for the boat. I did up size the lines to 5/16" from 1/4" as according to the SBO ordering page the age of the boat fit the criteria.
I am just glad I did not have this issue with main as we really need that one.
