I may need to replace my existing head sail furler (Isofurl System)on my '88 O'Day 302. Does anyone have any suggestions on what system to go to. Thanks.

New Furler

We installed a new Hood system on our 1980 O'day 30 last year and have been very happy with its performance. We purchased from Sailnet (best price) and had it installed locally with a new 130% genoa.

furler

My "new" 322 had a Harken Mk III. It works much better than the CDI furlers on my other O'Days (280, 240 &222)I'd spend the extra $ for the Harken.

Installed a CDI yesterday

We installed a CDI #6 yesterday on our 28. Pretty straightforward installation with the only exception being the installation of new Isomat stemball adapter from Harken we had swaged on the forestay to provide better flex for the unit. We are more daysail and cruise oriented...and other reports we had from CDI users seemed to reflect an opinion that this unit was a good value for the type of sailing we enjoy. Final cost for everything, including have foresail re-cut, luff and sunscreen installed, purchase of Harken lead block kit, forestay cut and the stemball adapter swaged on, and a boom truck to get us up to the mast top was about $1350.00.

Harken stemball adapter?

Ed from Millburn, Did you install the Harken stemball adapter? Was your existing furler an ISOMAT/ISOFURL? Spencer

Stemball Adapter

Ed, we didn't have a furling system on our boat. But in looking at installing the CDI we felt that the existing forestay...as it was mounted through our Isomat mast...might not provide enough flex and/or adapt as well to the rotation of the new system. Our sailmaker recommended we use the Stemball as a means to minimize possible issues down the road. Forestay removal was a bit of a pain...having to pull it up through the mast head...but hopefully the long-term benefit and piece of mind will be worth the modest extra effort! Hopefully that answered your question!
